Oregon Halibut Fishing Trip

2025 Halibut Season Allows 2 Fish per Person per Day!

Our halibut charter service is gearing up for an unforgettable ocean adventure, offering more than just halibut fishing. Alongside targeting halibut, we'll be pursuing lingcod, potentially hooking rockfish, and even checking the crab pots for added excitement.

Halibut fishing on the Oregon Coast is a popular recreational activity, and the waters off the coast of Oregon are home to a healthy population of halibut.

Halibut fishing season typically runs from May through September, with specific dates set each year by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW). The season may also be split into two periods, with a spring season from May to early June and a summer season from mid-August to late September.

All About Oregon Pacific Halibut:

Pacific halibut, the largest flatfish species native to the North Pacific Ocean, are truly fascinating creatures. Born swimming like salmon, these fish undergo a remarkable transformation within six months, where one eye migrates to the right side, prompting them to swim sideways. Their distinct coloring, with one side dark and the other white, showcases this unique adaptation.

In Oregon waters, anglers encounter two primary types of halibut: Pacific and California halibut. Pacific halibut, known for their impressive size, can reach lengths of over 8 feet and widths of more than 5 feet. While Oregon catches typically range from 20 to 150 pounds, these giants can weigh up to an astonishing 720 pounds, primarily found farther north towards Alaska. In contrast, California halibut, smaller in size and rarely seen north of Coos Bay, typically weigh between six to 30 pounds on average.
